It’s getting to that time of year again, where beach access for our pets will be restricted, not only by heat but also rules!
When I am pet sitting I love finding new places to explore with dogs big and small, old and young, and thought I would share a few with you that you might not know about.
My current favourite is the Gulf Harbour Country club, it’s like a dog park on speed, with kms of space, bunkers to play in and trees to rest under. It is so sad the club has been abandoned as a golf venue, but the locals are doing an incredible job of keeping it usable for walking and exploring.
Another beautiful walk is along the cliff tops to the right of Fisherman’s Cove. There is heaps of zoomie space and you can walk down the steps to an pretty much private beach.
Better known is the Orewa Estaury walkway, which we can access and walk for ages. It’s a bit busier though. You can follow the 6km Ōrewa Beachfront Path along the beach, or the 7.6km loop Te Ara Tahuna / Ōrewa Estuary Path.
The dog park by the Orewa Bridge is quite small but seems to be accessbile year round by local agreement.
If you feel like a day trip, here’s a list of dog parks further afield.
Happy walking and if you need a holiday by the sea while you head away this summer or just day care, we would love to hear from you.
